General USB Firmware Upgrade Procedure
| Document Type | Firmware Update Guide | Document Version | V1.0 |
| Applicable Product | KTC Monitor | Update Method | USB Flash Drive |
| Applicable Models | Refer to firmware package | Estimated Time | 5-10 minutes |
| Prepared By | KTC Support | Release Date | YYYY-MM-DD |
1. Pre-Update Requirements
| USB Drive | File System | Firmware File | Power | User Level |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8GB-32GB blank USB flash drive | FAT32 | .bin file renamed as required | Stable power supply; no interruption | Users instructed by KTC Support |
2. Pre-Update Precautions
| No. | Precaution | Required Action |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Check version description | Open and read the "Version Description" file first. Confirm the firmware is compatible with the monitor model and current firmware version. |
| 2 | No power interruption | Do not power off, unplug the power cable, or cut off power during firmware upgrade, backlight update, or system reboot. |
| 3 | Do not modify factory parameters | Factory and underlying system parameters are calibrated official settings. Unauthorized changes may cause color distortion or functional failure. |
| 4 | Use a qualified USB flash drive | Use a blank 8GB-32GB USB flash drive in FAT32 format. Avoid expanded drives, damaged drives, or old unstable USB drives. |
| 5 | Clean USB storage | Remove all irrelevant files. Keep only the firmware file to prevent recognition errors or process stalling caused by file interference. |
3. General Firmware Update Procedure
| Step | Operation | Instructions |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Firmware File Preparation | Extract the downloaded firmware package to obtain the .bin firmware file. Rename it to the designated official name. The universal default name is MERGE; refer to the corresponding version description for special requirements. Use English letters/numbers only; do not include Chinese characters, special symbols, or extra spaces. Place the renamed firmware file in the root directory of the USB flash drive. |
| 2 | Connect the USB Flash Drive | Locate the dedicated USB port on the monitor, usually on the side or rear panel. This service/debugging port may be different from ordinary data USB ports. Insert the prepared USB flash drive firmly to ensure stable contact. |
| 3 | Launch Update via OSD Menu | Press the physical keys on the monitor to open the OSD menu. Navigate to System Settings > USB Upgrade / Firmware Upgrade, then confirm to start firmware recognition and update. |
| 4 | Main Firmware Update Execution | After the firmware file is recognized, the screen will display an "Upgrading" prompt. The main upgrade process usually takes 3-5 minutes. Static screens or slight flickering are normal. Do not operate the monitor. |
| 5 | Backlight & Secondary System Update | After the main firmware update is completed, the monitor may black out and automatically start the backlight software and underlying adaptation program update. A blinking indicator light means the secondary update is in progress. |
| 6 | Finalize the Update | When the indicator light stops blinking and the monitor returns to standby or the initial state, all update processes are completed. Remove the USB flash drive, unplug and reconnect the power cable, then restart the monitor. |
4. Post-Update Inspection
| Check Item | Expected Result | Action if Abnormal |
|---|---|---|
| Firmware version | Updated to the latest official version | Recheck the firmware file and version description. |
| Display output | No flickering, distortion, or abnormal color | Restore factory settings and verify signal/input settings. |
| Brightness and color | Brightness, color modes, and preset modes work normally | Restore factory default preset modes to recalibrate display parameters. |
| OSD and key functions | Menu operations and physical keys respond normally | Power cycle the monitor and verify again. |
5. Common Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Recommended Action |
|---|---|---|
| Monitor fails to recognize firmware | Incorrect USB format; firmware file stored in a subfolder; wrong file name; mismatched firmware version | Format the USB flash drive as FAT32, place the firmware file in the root directory, verify the file name, and confirm model/version compatibility. |
| Update process freezes | Temporary system adaptation during the update | Do not power off. Wait 3-10 minutes for the system to resume automatically. |
| Display abnormalities after upgrade | Parameter mismatch or display settings not recalibrated | Restore the monitor to factory default settings to reset system parameters. |
| Monitor cannot boot after update | Power interruption, wrong firmware, or incomplete update | Stop further operation and contact KTC Support or authorized service personnel. |
